This is what we do and why we do it.

The Doggy-Deli is very quickly becoming established as an alternative to commercialised rubbish. Many, many times I have been asked to advise on dog`s diets and recommend alternatives to huge sack loads of chemical laden “Treats”.
I spent a number of years researching dog foods, biscuits, bones and treats. Often in very small print the ingredients would commit themselves to the bin. Offering permitted colours (within Europe) is not an excuse or an agreement that we will continue to buy them nor is it an excuse to look for safer alternatives.
Due to well-known commercial companies deciding to use cheap fillers and research departments refusing to source safer colour enhancements and create tastier treats I started what is now a fledging business “The Doggy-Deli”. The Doggy-Deli is and will always be an additive, colour and artificial flavour environment. We source safer preservatives, natural ones. We source safer flavours-real ones. We source safer colours-natural ones.
We have a vast range of biscuits, treats and cakes all natural and baked individually for you. We do not mass bake and store, we create, bake and send out yours and yours only.  Below are examples of what we do. People choose to order by phone, e-mail or Pay-pal. Please take a look and see what you fancy? If you have any questions and I mean any questions then do please get in touch.
Firstly we have our range of 20 biscuits to suit even the questionable pallet among you. Like any biscuit storage is the key to keeping these crunchy and not damp and gooey. You can simply place these biscuits in a cardboard box or an unsealed plastic bag should you not have a cookie jar or ceramic. Biscuits stored correctly have in cooler environments lasted between 6-8 weeks but differ from country to country.

Each pack of biscuits is weighing approx 180-210 grams depending on choice and you will receive 20 biscuits (8-10cms) in our exclusive Doggy-Deli biscuit bags. Currently we have small biscuits to much on and these go down well with; Yorkshire Terriers, West Highland Terriers and other small dogs, medium sized biscuits that dogs like Airedale Terriers, Pembroke Welsh Corgi and other medium sized dogs as well as large biscuits that suit German Shepherds, Kuvasz and my own dog.
Each bag of 20 biscuits costs £1.49* (average weight 180-210gm) each bag of 20 biscuits comes delicately wrapped in one of our exclusive The Doggy-Deli biscuit bags.

Our products are thoroughly tested and researched

Researching products and ingredients that I can use for The Doggy-Deli is very important when it comes to baking the best treats possible.
Running The Doggy-Deli Over the past 12 months Cleo and I have experimented with many different recipes working hard to create a delicious and nutritious product; a product that will sustain its freshness for a reasonable amount of time.  I found out soon enough that this would be one of the biggest challenges I would face baking all natural dog treats.  How do you preserve a product without adding actual preservatives?  What’s the best way to prevent mould?  Does packaging play a part in shelf life?  These are all questions that I’ve been faced with throughout this process, and luckily I’ve found some answers…
The first thing that I needed to do was to research natural preservatives.  Thanks to the internet I found that honey, cinnamon, sage, rosemary and cloves are all ingredients I can use to preserve my treats.  I’m currently baking with honey and cinnamon to test this theory, as I thought they would be the most appealing ingredients to add to each of my four recipes. The feedback I am receiving from people like Linda Lusardi has been incredibly positive.
With all natural dog treats, mould is a definite concern.  I understand that as a customer if you are paying for a product the last thing you want after a couple of days is to notice mould on any treats. I have successfully come up with a list of ingredients that are guaranteed to produce NO mould at all. By leaving out yeast this is a problem we do not have to suffer with.  We have found that if you store the treats in an open plastic bag or a closed tin you will have no problems for up to 3 week. The natural preservatives also help, but I learned that the cooling process would also play a key role in extending the shelf life of my product.  I now cool the treats in a dry cool area for 24-48 hours before packaging, eliminating excess moisture for optimum dryness.

I’m fortunate in the packaging department, as my treats are packaged in a specially designed and exclusively created plastic type biscuit bag.
We’re proud to offer you and your dog(s) the goodness of a 100% natural, wheat free snack, packaged for optimum freshness.

Allergies.

Food allergies are a big problem with dogs at the moment mostly the cause of processed foods and added chemicals.
Dogs react to food allergies by generally suffering with skin and coat problems. If you’ve experienced such allergies with your dog, you know the importance of taking your dog to a vet for formal diagnosis, and in turn learning how to treat such allergies.
Researching food allergies, and more specifically wheat/gluten allergies, I’ve found the following to be common symptoms:
Itchy skin
Shaking of the head
Ear inflammation
Licking front paws
Rubbing face on carpet
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Flatulence
Sneezing
Asthma like symptoms
Anal itching
Behavioural changes
Seizures
Many dog owners never suspect that a wheat allergy could be the cause of their dog’s health problems, usually because the dog has been fed the same food all its life and the symptoms have only recently appeared. But dogs are no different from humans in the fact that food allergies can develop over a period of time.
If your dog has been diagnosed with a wheat allergy and dealing with the restrictions of an exclusive diet, The Doggy-Deli Treats is happy to offer a delicious alternative in the snack department!

Cleo and I are currently creating in the kitchen to replace wheat and white flour with substitutes like white rice flour, brown rice flour, buckwheat flour and potato flour.  Sure to be a hit with dogs on wheat free diets!

Let`s start the new year off with a fresh start!!

What better way to show your furry friends that you care than giving them the gift of food?  The Doggy-Deli  Treats are the perfect present for any occasion!  From our variety pack of Oatmeal Molasses Cookies, Flax Sunflower Seed Biscuits, and our Honey Nut Cheerio Peanut Butter Balls.

We spoke with Lee who after a free consultation gave us a lot of beneficial advice and information. There was no hard selling at all. Lee provided us with a bag of free treats suitable for our dogs and we have never looked back! The Doggy-Deli really is a lovely company there to help and support you”.

Dried Dog Foods-A review of Wagg dried dog food.

After spending a lot of time writing blogs I obviously also do a lot of research into different products and services. Recently I have been researching and reviewing dried dog foods and look extremely closely at the list of ingredients added to these products.

Yesterday on this blog I was looking at EC permitted colours and the longevity of these once consumed by your dog. I was shocked to learn about illnesses and even deaths in some cases.

Wagg dried dog foods is the latest food I have been asked to review. For me to review any dog food it needs to pass a number of tests before it even gets close to my dogs mouth.
Firstly when given the bag of Wagg Complete Worker Chicken and Vegetables dog food was to look closely at the labelling and packaging. In the ingredients it states that Wheat is the first ingredient not unlike other dried dog foods but then it does go onto meats, in this case "Meat Meal".

So what is meat meal? For one there is no such thing as human grade meat meal. Fact. This is because meat meal is never produced for human consumption. This however does not mean though that everything labelled "Meat meal" is of low quality. It is difficult to say because by law dog foods do not need to say what quality there meats actually are. Wagg states that their meat is human grade quality but this does not include the ingredient-Meat meal it only includes the meats that are added. If an ingredient list includes "Chicken meal" it could be from high quality de-boned chicken breasts or from old battery hens with little muscle or quality meat. Unfortunately for us Wagg chooses not to say, although it does include it as their sixth ingredient. A good tool to use is look at Ash in ingredients, if the ash content is quite low then the proportion of bone to meat is also low. In this case it is 8.5%. Quite high.

Wagg says on their web site "we do not use any artificial colours or flavours in their dog foods and in their complete dried dog foods the meat is of human grade". All 4% of it in this case.

For me to open the bag and give it to my dog Wagg need to make their labelling a lot clearer and remove the meat meal from their products. Then and only then will my dog actually try it!!

Wagg Dog Treat Review

I am always a little dubious when a kind friend brings round dog treats for my cross collie/German Shepard as she does from time to time have a sensitive stomach.

My friend Amy who knows my dog extremely well brought around "Wagg dog treats" for sensitive stomachs so I thought I would give it a go. I first looked at the bag and like I normally do examined the list of ingredients and looked closely at what additives, colours or other needless things were hiding in there? I didn`t know a lot about Wagg at the time so I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to see that Wagg do not add any artificial colours, flavours or sugar!! Yes I was shocked too.

The next test was for my dog who was wagging her tail every time I made a noise with the bag and instantly knew there was a surprise for her. I opened the bag and although smelly she instantly knew it was treat time. I love it when my dog is excited about food and I love it even more when I know what I am giving her is not just tasty but more importantly free from rubbish!!

I gave her one and unlike other times when she would have treats she didn`t drop it on the floor and do the smell test instead she instantly chewed and swollowed salavating for the next one. Success can be measured in many ways but for me and my dog its toilet time and I am pleased to inform you that everything was fine. I intend to stay on Wagg now and can be re-assured every time she has a treat from Wagg it contains no artificial colours, additives or sugars.

A Fresh alternative to sugary additive products you find in some large pet stores we have our "Breeze" a light dumpling shaped starter. This is very low in fat and is a lovely light snack.

Like our other weight watching items "Doggy-Deli Diet" allows your dog to still enjoy treats but assist with shedding the weight. Made with loin beef, celery, bean sprouts, cooked bran and low fat yoghurt these treats will have your dog eager to get to that park.

Teeth and gums have always been an issue for dog owners and trying to keep them healthy and clean can sometimes be a chore. We have developed "Gummy Trouble" made with sunflower seeds, oats, rapeseed oil, skimmed milk and chicken stock. These healthy treats will have those teeth sparkling.

Does your dog have wind? Then our new "Windy Pops" might just be what you are looking for. With gluten free flour, skimmed milk and parsley these treats with stop your lovely dog blushing in his bed.
